Ron Paul's like Butter, He's on a Roll!
Can Ron Paul really come galloping all the way back and capture the Republican nomination for President? Don't tell Ron Paul he can't.
The man who has been censored and blacklisted by the media, repeatedly called a fringe candidate, and not invited to debates is coming off two straight second place finishes. While Rudy Giuliani is making veiled statements about dropping out, Ron Paul is talking about momentum and enjoying his recent victory in a Connecticut straw poll. The straw poll, held in Middleton, was a $10 private event that benefited a breast cancer charity. Ron Paul defeated not only his Republican competitors, but also Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, winning all three ballots. Paul won the first ballot 42% to 30% of Hillary Clinton (Obama had 20%), the second poll 42% to 32% over Clinton (Obama at 22%), and the final one on one showdown also had Ron Paul winning 46% to 42% over Hillary Clinton. Of course Ron Paul was still slighted by the Conneticutt press. The Hartford Courant newspaper headline read: Clinton, Paul Winners of Middletown Poll. That's despite the fact that Ron Paul defeated Hillary Clinton in all three ballots, but she gets top billing as a winner. Typical.
But the mistreatment by the media isn't getting the man himself down. In a new message posted today on his website, Ron Paul keeps up the fight:
"When I started this campaign more than a year ago, I was a somewhat reluctant candidate," Ron Paul posted on his website this afternoon. "I knew our message of freedom, peace, and prosperity was the right one for our country, but frankly, I didn't know how many people today would have ears to hear it."
"Well, did I learn a lesson! Millions of Americans understand what ails our country, what is needed to fix it. So, with you at my side, I am in this effort to win...not only by building the ideas of liberty, but by getting the nomination. Our opponents would call that nuts - you know, the advocates of more inflation, more spending, more taxes, more war."
He adds, "One would never know this from the mainstream media, but we've had only a few primaries and caucuses, and even after the extremely important date of February 5th, we will still have more than half to go. And the Republican nominee will not be decided by the popular vote among the 'leading candidates' in a few states also handpicked by the media. The nominee will be decided by the delegates. So let me tell you a little about our 'under-the-radar' strategy to get those delegates."
Ron Paul then lays out his plan for Super Tuesday, and says he is doing well and getting his message out in all of the states, with the help of his supporters, the self-proclaimed Ron Paul Revolution.
Paul has been enjoying large support everywhere he goes, like in Maine, where he was greeted by 150 supporters while getting out his message in time for this weekend's 3 day Republican Caucus.
Paul began running a new add in Tennessee and Arkansas, touting his financial experience over the other candidates (I'll add especially John McCain, who said this week he doesn't understand economics). You can see the new ad at the end of this article.
Paul plans to be in Southern Illinois on Wednesday for a conference with St. Louis area voters, and is in, of all places, Alaska on Tuesday for another town hall style meeting. As I said, the man is everywhere. He has more energy at 72 than I do at roughly half his age.
The truth is, despite the media proclaiming John McCain the Republican front-runner, and Mitt Romney battling for the lead, little old Ron Paul, that wacky, fringe candidate, keeps getting votes and donations and is very much in the race. With Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter dropping out, and Rudy G. to follow, the field is narrowing fast. That's all the better for Ron Paul, especially if he is allowed to debate the other candidates. When people hear Ron Paul speak they realize he doesn't sound like a politician. He sounds like exactly what he is, a sensible, intelligent, well spoken adult. He has real life experience as a doctor (and businessman running his medical practice) and is grounded in reality, something the other candidates do not offer, no matter how much they spit and polish their image.
If you want real change, the kind of change Obama keeps talking about but not explaining what he actually means, then support Ron Paul. Help get the word out to your friends and relatives, even co-workers. Direct them to Ron Paul's website, or to this website where they can read about his policies, compare him to other candidates, and discuss their views in the comments.
Half of the country will be voting in the next 10 days. This is a crucial period, not for Ron Paul, but for our country. It's time we had real change, but not just change for changes sake. It's time for grown up leaders who stop making choices based on the bulging wallets offered by lobbyists and Arabs. Do you want this country to continue on the path it is on? Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, we all agree things are not where they should be. Don't vote for the trendy candidate, or the best looking, most polished candidate. Don't vote for the one you'd like to have a beer with, or the one your favorite talk show host endorses. Vote for the candidate who makes sense. While the other candidates are interrupting him and rolling their eyes, stop and listen to what Ron Paul is saying. While his competition is playing the race card and finding new ways to insult each other, Ron Paul is giving honest answers with informed, grown up plans on how to fix what's ailing this country.

Thank you for such a postive article about Ron Paul. This is the type of information that the mainstream media is not airing- what is actually going on the campaign trail across the nation. It's such a shame you have to see it in your own neighborhood to know what is happening. Ron Paul isn't crazy and his supporters aren't either. They are inspired. I am so glad you are reaching out to democrats, republicans, and independents and letting them see that this guy is for real and this is a phenomenon they shouldn't miss out on. Stop worrying about what people are telling you about Ron Paul and look for yourself :)
Great article. Except that I *do* want to have a beer with Ron Paul. I have a feeling he'd pass though, in spite of his crazy travel schedule. McCain seems like he'd be a sloppy drunk, and I'd wind up "not drinking" to give him a lift home. Huckabee would look at me funny for having *my* beer. And Romney - I think I just want to pour a beer on his head.
Thanks again for the great article. We truly are on a roll.

hmmm I'm just wondering how he could ever hold true on his campaign promises, but we'll see when he actually gets into office.
I'm not sure Ron Paul has made any "promises". He'd like to do a lot of things, though, and I know he'd do his best to get it done. Phase out the IRS, phase out social security for the younger generation while taking care of the old. These things will all take the work of congress, and time. They cannot be done all at once. There are a few things he's mentioned that he can do pretty quickly - changing our foreign policy for one to be less interventionist for one. Visibility into what the Federal Reserve is doing is another. These are all in his detailed economic plan.
