Hey Hillary - Quit Already!

It's time for Hillary to put her money where her mouth is and do what's best for this country - drop out of the Democratic race for president.

After 10 straight blowout losses, the only person who thinks she still has a chance is Hillary herself, if you believe what her spin doctors are saying. The 10 straight wins haven't been merely wins, they have been true blowouts - Obama has received 57%, 59%, 68%, 68%, 90%, 64%, 56%, 75%, 58%, and 76% of the vote (In order: LA, ME, NE, WA, V.I., VA, MA, D.C., WI, HI). Hillary has lost by an average of 36%. Repeat - Hillary has trailed Obama by an average of 36% in the last 10 primary results. This isn't a race, it's a rout, and it's time for Hillary to get the hell out.

It's gotten so bad that the talking heads on CNN have started to mention the Q Word (quit). It's gotten so bad that Paul Begala, a CNN political analyst who worked for Bill Clinton, was practically flabbergasted when asked what Hillary should do now. Begala's only advice was to start quoting John Edwards, who was critical of Obama in the early going. Perhaps Begala should ask John Edwards how well that worked, since Edwards is sitting at home watching Obama make history.

If Hillary really loves this country, if she truly wants to do what's best for this country, then it's time to quit. The Democratic party doesn't need bickering and a legal battle over unseated delegates in Florida and Michigan, and neither does the country.

For Hillary, it's time to pack it in and live to fight another day. She can either continue to serve in the Senate, where she criticizes the war but votes for it and to fund it, and where she sneaks in over $2 billion in federal funding for personal earmarks (pork) to donors of her campaign. Or she can retire from public office. Under no condition should Hillary be Obama's running mate. Obama would blow all of his momentum if he picked Hillary, but that's a subject for another time.

The Icky Truth: Hillary had a good run as the first serious female candidate for president. Her misfortune is she decided to run at the exact moment Americans have grown tired of recycled, corrupt, gasbag politicians.

Digg!
