See The Controversial McCain Photos
Well known freelance photographer Jill Greenberg, a confessed die hard Democrat, was hired by Atlantic Magazine to do a cover shoot with John McCain for their October issue, currently on newsstands. Greenberg's photos were supposed to run alongside a feature article called, "The Wars of John McCain."
However, other than the cover photo, Greenberg's pictures were not used. She was not paid for the photoshoot, and she reportedly could face a lawsuit from the magazine.
Atlantic editors realized they had a problem when Greenberg turned in her photos. They were fantastic - if the magazine wanted to portray McCain as a demon. Otherwise they were useless. After discussing the photos, they decided the magazine couldn't use them.
Then things got more interesting.
Greenberg bragged on another website about shooting McCain as unflattering as possible, tricking him, and then doctoring several of the photos to make McCain look as bad as possible. She boasted, "I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad."

In one photo, Greenberg made McCain into a vampire or grotesque monster, complete with razor sharp teeth and a bloody mouth.
In other photo's Greenberg posted to her website, she added captions to the photos, such as, "It was really fun to cheat on my car-injury-disabled first wife," and made it look like McCain had lipstick smeared on his lips from making out. Another photo has McCain smiling with the caption, "I called my wife a cunt in front of reporters."
That's when Atlantic realized they had been duped, and decided not to pay Greenberg for the shoddy and unprofessional work.
Greenberg's actions are unprofessional and over the top. While McCain is an idiot, confessed adulterer, tax cheat, and corrupt politician, Greenberg's actions do not paint McCain in a worse light. Instead they only show how immature Greenberg is.
That type of behavior might be expected from a 16 year old, but an established, supposedly professional photographer? She should have just turned down the assignment
