State Cop Pulls Over Ambulance and Attacks Paramedics
An Oklahoma state trooper pulled over an ambulance that was taking a patient to a hospital and attempted to handcuff and arrest one of the paramedics for not getting out of the patrol car's way on the highway. Then the trooper claimed a paramedic gave him the finger and promptly started a fight with the paramedics, which was filmed by the patients husband who had been following the ambulance.
Video at the bottom of the post. Several updates added at the end.
Tulsa World has more:
"Assistant District Attorney Maxey Reilly said she just received the report Tuesday and hasn't had time to determine what charges, if any, should be filed. She said she hopes to do so by next week.
The Creek Nation, which operates the ambulance service involved, released detailed reports filed by the two paramedics.
The incident occurred in Paden as the Creek Nation ambulance, which did not have its emergency lights or siren on, was taking a sick woman from Boley to the hospital in nearby Prague.
According
to a report by paramedic Maurice White Jr., the ambulance, driven by Paul Franks, was nearing Paden when White saw a trooper's car approaching fast behind them.
White said the patrol car had its emergency lights on but that he couldn't hear a siren.
When he next noticed the patrol car, it was about three feet behind the ambulance's bumper, he said.
At that point, White told Franks to pull over to let the patrol car pass.
As the trooper passed, the ambulance received a radio transmission from the trooper, whom White quoted as telling them, "You should consider checking your rear-view mirrors."
A few blocks into Paden, White saw a trooper's car, with its lights and siren on, pull out of a side street and again race up to the ambulance, he said.
Franks pulled over, and he and White got out of the ambulance, White said.
White said the trooper had a woman in the car, so he thought at first that she was sick and that the trooper wanted them to look at her.
However, "the officer got out of his vehicle in a state of rage," White's report states.
The trooper, identified in the Creek Nation reports only as Trooper Martin, reportedly told Franks that he was going to be ticketed for failure to yield, adding, "What do you mean flipping me off?" White's report states.
White noted that when the trooper earlier advised them over the radio to check their mirrors, Franks held up his hands in surprise and that the trooper might have mistaken that for an indecent gesture.
White said he interceded, telling the trooper that they had a patient in the ambulance and were going to the hospital.
He said the trooper demanded that Franks get in the patrol car for a citation.
Again, White wrote, he told the trooper that they had a patient and that "we could continue this at the hospital."
"At this point," White continued, "I told my partner to listen to me and that we did not have time for this now."
White said the trooper then shouted at him that he was under arrest for obstructing an officer and then tried to handcuff him, resulting in a struggle.
White said he returned to the ambulance to check on the patient when another trooper, identified in White's report only as "badge 606," appeared and tried to arrest him.
The troopers finally let the ambulance go to the hospital, the report says.
Other troopers were at the hospital and told the medics they would not be arrested but that the incident would be forwarded to the district attorney for possible charges.
The Creek Nation's report noted that the patient's family was following them and that one relative had a camera and filmed the confrontation."
The Dallas police officer who pulled a similar stunt a month ago, refusing to allow NFL player Ryan Moats and his family visit their dying mother, eventually resigned. Trooper Martin in this case should be fired outright and be charged with interfering with an emergency vehicle.
UPDATE: Both state troopers have been revealed. Troopers Daniel Martin and Bryan Iker. The same article has this promising quote: "Assistant District Attorney Maxey Reilly said Friday it may be next week before she decides what charges, if any, will be filed. She did note, though, that the interference with paramedics in the performance of their duties is against the law in Oklahoma."
Second UPDATE: The Oklahoma State Police have released the dashboard video of the incident filmed from Trooper Martin's police vehicle, posted below.
We also have an update on the status of the incident: "The patrol has completed its internal investigation into the actions of trooper Daniel Martin, who has been placed on administrative leave with pay, West said. The investigation is now under review.
"Martin, a patrolman with two years experience, has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing by Okfuskee County District Attorney Max Cook. He also said he would not file charges against Creek Nation EMT Maurice White Jr., who is the person involved in the altercation with Martin."
Once again police officers get away with brutality and outright criminal behavior.
I have more coverage of this here. And a new post has side by side video of the police dashboard camera's view next to the close up view filmed by the patient's family member. It's not surprising to see the dashboard camera misses the entire attack by Trooper Martin.
If you're still reading, check out another video with multiple Alabama police officers beating an unconscious man who was thrown from a vehicle in a horrendous accident police caused. That's the worst case of police brutality I've ever seen on film. Five of those officers were fired. But none of them are being prosecuted either.

Please use the link below to contact the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and demand Trooper Martin be fired. Demand that he be arrested. Voice your outrage, but do it in a respectful - but firm - tone. Let's get this guy off the streets.

Fucking Pigs
Though I live in TX, I made sure they heard what I had to say! Completely respectfully and logically, so the point is respected in return. These troopers should be sent to jail. So many violations it is disgusting.
Another fine example of our state troopers harassing innocent people. We put up with this shit in Ohio too.
I have been the victim of this kind of treatment as well in michigan. I was going to my brothers house who was having a seizure, i was speeding and was more then willing to pay that ticket to get there. I was how ever pulled over and ignored when i told the cop about the medical emergency in the house, was handcuffed and being processed to go to jail for fleeing and eluding because i went the 5 driveways (maybe 250-300 feet) to my brothers house from the corner that the cop turned his lights on to pull me over. All said and done i was charged and convicted of disobeying a police officer a civil infraction, but when he pulled me over i was polite cooperative and non threating. While he drew his weapon on me, screamed yelled was abusive and combative with both me and my distraught mother threating to arrest her as well for being too busy crying to answer his questions to her. The courts and police department refused to even look into any alligations of mistreatment by the officer.
I live in WV but I did write and tell them that he should be fire and this is just something that should have never have happened to anyone!
It is a police state plain and simple. And a bunch of low class cops who also happen to be very stupid are running around playing it cool. What idiots!!! I am sure grateful to have left that country. Arrest or fire that dork!!! That is what they do inj the civilised world.
A group of us in the military saw this video while having lunch in the DFAC. We all laughed when the trooper tried to justify his doings. Then we all called out names of who the trooper reminded us of in the military. haha This was so wrong. But then again - what can we do? No one higher up is going to listen.
THIS TROOPER SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY, THE BEHAVIOR FROM THE OFFICER IS INAPPROPRIATE,DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF THE PATIENT WAS A FAMILY MEMBER OF YOURS THAT WAS SUFFERING FROM CHEST PAIN, A POTENTIALY LETHAL SYMPTOM OF A CARDIAC DYSRYTHMIA, IF THIS TROOPER DOES NOT GET PENILIZED THERE IS NO JUSTICE
I should hope he gets fired from his Hiway Patrol job and goes back to asking "do you want fries with that order" where he belongs.
Another fine example of police using their authority to intimidate and flaunt the power they've been given. I've seen the dash video and the relatives of the woman in the ambulance. To let these guys off with paid vacation should be a crime in itself. I almost puked when I heard that trooper Martin was placed on "paid suspension."
Whatever happened to "protect and serve?" This officer showed no humanity at all when faced with the fact that there was a sick woman in the back that was being transported to a local hospital. I have another two words for trooper martin as well.....ANGER MANAGEMENT. Although I'm pretty sure it wasn't me that pissed in your cheerios this morning, it still does not give you the right to take your frustration out on someone that is also in public service. I imagine that if you were ever involved in a wreck and needed their assistance, you would be much nicer to the crew. Instead you chose rage over approaching the situation with a cool head. I pretty much guarantee if that was Joe Citizen with his mitts around the paramedics neck, he would be locked up on assault charges in a heartbeat. The politics of this situation have totally sickened me. I guess if I have to ever drive thru Oklahoma I'll wear mittens so you dont mistake my wave for an indecent gesture.
This entire incident is insane. 1. the Officer was probably coming up on the ambulance at 100mph+, 2.The vehicle being an ambulance may have had a trauma patient on-board,therefore risking a life. 3. The lives of other drivers were at risk, not to mention the "gapers delay"/onlookers.This would have been so much more in control and in a safer manner if the officer had waited to get to the E.R.. What a fine example of the trash/power hungry/pigs in action. Yes it does only take the actions of one to make all Police officers look bad.You represent the entire force not just yourself Buford T. Justice.
