Rush Limbaugh Re-iterates: I DO WANT OBAMA TO FAIL

"This notion that I want the President to fail? That's nothing more than common sense..."

Limbaugh continued for an hour about how Democrats are the evil force destroying the country. This quote below is about all you need to know...

"Ladies and gentleman of the United States, the Democrat Party has actively not just sought the failure of Republican presidents, and policies, and now war for the first time. The Democrat party does not stop at failure. Talk to judge Robert Bork, talk to justice Clarence Thomas about how they try to destroy lives, reputations and character. And I'm supposed to say I don't want the president to fail? We are in for a real battle. We are talking about the United States of America... remaining the country we were all born into and reared and grown into. And it is under assault, it has always been under assault. But it has never been under assault like this, from within."

What total bullshit. The Democrats supported the idiotic war, if Limbaugh doesn't remember. Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and every other big name Democrat at the time voted in favor of going to war with Iraq if necessary. Only later did they find out that the evidence used to convince them to back the war was a complete fabrication. Once Bush's lies were exposed for what they were, Democrats and a huge portion of the public turned against the war.

So let's see, the GOP was in power for 8 years, destroyed our economy, staged an illegal war, murdered hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's, removed laws that ensured Americans had clean air, water, and safe food, gave tax credits to encourage our industry to outsource our jobs, and somehow, it's the Democrats fault because they secretly want to destroy America? Complete fucking horseshit. Pardon my french, but that's the truth.

Conservative States Buy More Porn

Conservative states that ban gay marriage and are offended by liberal sexuality also buy the most porn.

"A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymous credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states...

"However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

"Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Benjamin Edelman of Harvard Business School says...

"The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users...

"Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favored Barack Obama...

"Residents of 27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages boasted 11% more porn subscribers than states that don't explicitly restrict gay marriage...

"States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement "I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage," bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement "AIDS might be God's punishment for immoral sexual behaviour."

Freebie of the Day: The Ultimate Grocery List

Today I'm starting a new regular column called Freebie of the Day. I'll write about something you can get for free that might actually be of benefit.

In the past I've compiled a list of restaurants that give out free food on your birthday, which has been very popular.

Today's Freebie of the Day is a printable grocery list, called The Ultimatest Grocery List.

It features a table of grocery items broken down by categories, as well as check boxes and a blank area to write in other items. I've found it to be a very handy list, better than my cryptic hand scrawled notes.

Tip: if your printer costs a fortune to run, you might print one copy and take it to a local printing shop and run off 25-50 copies for less than replacing your expensive ink cartridges.

The Ultimatest Grocery List can be downloaded here. (Letter size is the one most people download)

NFL Handing Out Raises Like Bank CEO's Giving Bonuses

The country is in a depression and the NFL are acting like CEO's of American banks giving each other bonuses.

The Oakland Raiders have pissed of a lot of NFL general managers and front office people this week with two ridiculously dumb signings.

Free agency hasn't even started, but they resigned two of their own players, a cornerback and a punter.

The top salary in NFL history for a cornerback was $9.36 million per year when the Eagles signed Asante Samuel last year. The Raiders didn't give their guy, Nnamdi Asomugha, a raise to $10 million per year, or even around $11 million, but gave him an average over $15 million per season for 3 years. It's $5.77 million more per season than the highest contract at that position in NFL history. 62% higher. Sports Illustrated quoted one GM as saying if an agent tries to use that contract as a comparison to sign another player he can go jump in a lake.

But the Raiders one upped themselves with the contract they gave their punter.

The highest salary for a punter was $1.7 million per year signed by the Cowboys Mat McBriar. The Raiders gave their punter, Shane Lechler, $4 million per year for four years. Over a 135% higher salary than the highest paid punter in history. Punter is a position that plays an average of 4-5 plays per game. Lechler has averaged 76 punts per season, 4.8 punts per game, not including the playoffs (which the Raiders haven't seen in years). The Raiders are paying that punter $52,631 per punt. By comparison, the Cowboys punter is paid $25,000 per punt, and he was the highest paid punter in history. (McBriar averages 4.27 punts per game and 68 punts per season)

They could have resigned both players to deals slightly above the next closest player, without going crazy.

It reminds me of when the Chicago Cubs signed Ryne Sandberg to the first $7 million dollar a year contract in 1992, when nobody had ever made $6 million per year. Sandberg's huge raise sparked quite an outcry at the time, but Sandberg "only" got a raise of just over 22% higher than the next guy, Bobby Bonilla's $5.8 million per year. The Raiders went 62% and 135% higher than the highest paid players at their positions.

The next time your boss gives you a review, instead of no raise, or a modest 2% increase, ask for a punter raise.

And start teaching your kids to punt!

ARod Hires Sosa's Lawyers; "No Speaka De English" Next Defense?

Alex Rodriguez has hired two of the lawyers who represented Sammy Sosa at Congressional hearings on steroids use. Sosa's testimony at the hearings were memorable because Sosa, who speaks English well and had done thousands of interviews in English, suddenly claimed he could not speak English. Even more ridiculous was the Congressmen accepting it.

But the ARod story won't die, thanks to journalists in NYC doing their job and investigating ARod's claims.

The latest news is that ARod may have also used steroids or HGH during the 2007 season. ARod reportedly traveled with a known steroids-connected trainer the entire season, putting him up in posh hotels and had him bunk with ARod's cousin, the same cousin ARod said shot him up regularly with steroids for 3 years. The trainer, who is banned by MLB for another steroid incident, always met with ARod in private, according to the NY Daily News. The same trainer also worked with ARod during the steroid years in Texas. Ask yourself, if ARod wasn't doing anything wrong, why the secrecy?

2007 was notable because ARod had the opportunity to void his contract and become a free agent at the conclusion of the season. That same season ARod coincidentally had a new career year, jumping from 35 to 54 home runs, won the MVP, and signed an even more lucrative 10 year, $275 million deal with the Yankees. The following season saw ARod fall back to 35 home runs.

And those 54 home runs? It was only the third time in his career ARod hit 50+ hr's, the other two were as a Texas Ranger in 2001and 2002, seasons in which ARod admitted he cheated.

One of ARod's new lawyers also defended George W. Bush against a federal prosecutor. Not good company to keep for an admitted steroid cheat, teaming with the cartoonishly bloated Sammy Sosa and the most corrupt president in history.

So will ARod suddenly claim he no speaka de English? He might as well, his story so far seems less than honest. He could even get Madonna to testify she thought he was a latin pool boy.

Swiss Bank Steals $20 Billion From Us, Tells U.S.A. to Go Screw

The Wall Street Journal reports that a Swiss bank is hiding behind Swiss law and refusing to cooperate with the United States government after defrauding our government (and us, the taxpayers) of $20 billion.

It's a long article so I'll sum up.

John McCain's right hand man, Phil Gramm, was a Senator who helped deregulate the U.S. banking industry, which led to the current recession. Then Gramm quit the Senate and went to work for UBS, a Swiss bank that paid Gramm to lobby George W. Bush to remove all remaining consumer protection laws for banks and investment firms, which UBS happens to be.

But this turns out to be more than just another story of greed and corruption.

UBS was busted last year for helping to hide $20 billion from the IRS that their wealthiest U.S. customers would of had to pay as taxes. UBS used offshore accounts, phony companies, fake phone numbers, fake account numbers, and even had bank employees smuggling diamonds in and out of the U.S. hidden in toothpaste tubes so their customers wouldn't have to pay duties.

Now, after admitting last week they intentionally conspired to defraud the United States government, and agreeing to pay $780 million in fines, UBS is saying they don't have to turn over the names of 52,000 of the richest Americans who stole from us, because Swiss law says they don't have to cooperate.

The U.S. response should be to seize the assets of all UBS entities in the U.S. and kick the company out of the country permanently. Any U.S. executives of the company should be prosecuted for tax evasion and fraud. This company needs to be held responsible, and allowing them to pay a small fine while protecting the identities of 52,000 criminals is not acceptable.

It never fails to amaze that the richest citizens and corporations continue to steal and seldom get more than a slap on the wrist. Will the Obama Administration handle this any differently than George W. Bush and the Republicans? Bush and the GOP tried to brush it under the carpet by cutting a deal with UBS to protect the identities of rich tax evaders.
