Adolf Hitler Appears In Advertisements Around The World

Adolf Hitler is fast becoming the "hip" ad spokesperson for a new generation. Companies and countries around the world are using Hitler's image to hawk books, DVD's, condoms, and increase AIDS awareness.

Germany of all places is using Hitler's image in their AIDS prevention campaign. Hitler appears naked in the throws of sex with a naked woman. Russian mass murderer Joseph Stalin and Iraq president Saddam Hussein also appear in the ad campaign.

A German condom company is also using Hitler's likeness to scare customers into buying and using their products. Somehow I think Doc Morris Pharmacies telling customers to "use a condom and don't have a baby Hitler" doesn't say much about how the company views their customers. (Osama bin Laden and Mao Zedong appear in similar ads)

It's also interesting that some of these ads are coming from Germany, where besides the lasting stigma Hitler left on the country, most Hitler related items, including the display of a swastika, are illegal in Germany. But someone it's OK if he's used in ads.

And last but not least, CNA, a South African retailer who sells books, movies, games, and music, has launched a new campaign melding the faces of Hitler and James Dean. Does seeing Hitler in an ad make you want to buy the new Coldplay CD more?

Does this backfire on the advertisers, or do you find it acceptable? Would you have a different opinion if the companies used a more recent murderer, like David Koresh of Mohamed Atta?
