Mark McGwire Blames Steroid Era? HE CREATED STEROID ERA!
Get this crap, read his last sentence:
"Mark McGwire finally came clean Monday, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998.
McGwire says in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade and he apologizes for his actions.
He says: "I wish I had never touched steroids. It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.""
McGwire CREATED the steroid era along with teammate Jose Canseco. What kind of crap is that? If he played in a different era he wouldn't have cheated? He's a hypocritical scumbag. If he played in a different era he wouldn't have made the majors. He was a one dimensional player who only hit homers. He didn't play defense. Couldn't hit for average. Didn't hit doubles, couldn't steal bases. All he did was hit hr's, and he's admitted that the reason he could hit hr's was cheating. He's a piece of shit who should not be allowed to coach or even look at a ballgame on TV. Fuck him.

Mr Dooley, it is unacceptable that McGwire accepted the credit and handshakes for his steriod records. Yet the players who didn't cheat, lost the chance to be the single season home run leader in 1998, with or without recording breaking numbers. I'm sure you will recall that McGwire accepted handshakes from Cubs players when he reached his artificial achievement in 1998. I will not mention Sosa, as it is a sad memory to think that all those news headlines were for two cheats. We got the exciting 1998 headlines even here in Australia. Mr Dooley, whilst the individuals made the decision to cheat, MLB rules on steriod use has been the laughing stock of professional sport. Now that McGwire is telling the truth is a kick in the pants. If he wants to make a difference, perhaps he should request his 1998 single season home record be cancelled, and his 500 plus home runs be considered void. It hurts to start thinking about Roger Clemens and others. The solution is banning steriod cheats from playing, this could consist of a number of week, a season or a lifetime ban for repeat offenders. From Sydney, Australia, keep up the great insights Mr Dooley.
Nicholas, what is really sad is that McGwire was on MLB Network this evening (it's the baseball TV channel here), and he claimed that he never took steroids to improve his performance or to be stronger, it was just to recover from injuries. Then he proceeded to say he hit home runs in little league as a little kid, and never needed any drugs to help do that. So he just cheated, and broke U.S. federal law, for a full decade, because he thought it would help him heal injuries? The man is such a liar it's sickening. At least if you're going to admit you did something wrong, admit it and take responsibility.
I've said for years that the first punishment for any player in any sport who is caught using a performance enhancing drug should be a lifetime ban from that sports' hall of fame. McGwire's name should be removed from any record books. It's a disgrace not to.
As for Sosa, being here in Chicago, I saw him grow from a skinny kid to a jumbo blimp who was bursting out of his uniform. His denials are worthless. I have no sympathy for these guys.
