Japan: How You Can Help
CNN has posted a piece about how we can help in Japan, along with direct links and information about what each group is trying to do to help.
If you can spare even just $1 it will go to good use. The poor people of Japan are in a situation that is incredibly dire.
World Vision:
"The humanitarian group World Vision has personnel on the ground distributing first relief supplies like water, diapers, blankets and powdered milk to victims and their children in affected areas.
It also plans to establish one or more "child-friendly spaces" for kids "affected by disasters to resume normal childhood activities and experience structure and security that are often lost following emergency situations."
Visit the World Vision website to donate or text "4JAPAN" to 20222 to send a $10 donation to the group. It will show up on your next mobile phone bill.
The Red Cross:
"The American Red Cross made an initial financial contribution of $10 million to the Japanese Red Cross on Tuesday. The organization sent a disaster expert from Washington to Japan earlier this week, and the Japanese Red Cross has dispatched dozens of response teams.
To aid the Red Cross efforts, you can text "REDCROSS" to 90999 and make a $10 donation to the organization." Or visit the Red Cross website to donate.
The Salvation Army:
"The Salvation Army in Japan has three emergency service relief teams in affected areas. A team in Sendai handed out 1,000 hot meals, drinks and handi-towels to survivors. Another team in the Mito area unloaded water bottles, biscuits, blankets, diapers and tissue boxes for distribution to evacuees."
You can donate on the Salvation Army website. Type in "Japan" to the specific use box if you want your donation to go to the Salvation Army in Japan.
