World's Largest Shopping Mall Sits Empty In China

The New South China Mall is twice the size of the Mall of America, but sits mostly empty with only 1% occupancy.

The mall is split into seven districts, each resembling international cities. The few visitors who do arrive can take gondola rides through the canals of Venice, walk down the Champs Elysee, or visit a rain forest or Caribbean Sea.

Opened in 2005, the mall has never had residents in 99% of it's 2,350 stores.

Another problem showcased in the PBS video below is that sewage from the park is pumped into the canal, instead of into a sewer system. How lovely. I can only imagine how the mall will smell if it starts getting a lot of customers.
